Course Description:

This session explores the experiences of individuals with invisible disabilities such as mental health conditions, traumatic brain injury, and intellectual differences. Mental health providers will examine how stigma, misunderstanding, and systemic barriers affect inclusion and client well-being. With a focus on ethics, advocacy, and cultural competence, participants will learn practical strategies for accommodations and inclusive language use. This training prepares professionals to integrate strengths-based, ethical approaches into counseling and workplace advocacy.


Course Objectives:

  • Define & Evaluate - Define invisible disabilities and identify common conditions, enhancing awareness of client diversity. Evaluate barriers and misconceptions individuals with invisible disabilities face in professional and educational contexts, strengthening the ethical responsibility to reduce stigma and promote equity

  • Develop & Apply - Develop accommodation strategies that align with ethical practice and professional standards of care. Apply strengths-based and supportive language when discussing accommodations, advancing ethical communication and client dignity in counseling interactions.
